Digital Map System
A moving-map underlay for the MFD — small system, but nine distinct failure messages worth being able to tell apart.
Source: AW169 / AW169 EP RFM Supplement 17 (Digital Map System). Same avionics suite on both configurations.
What it is
A moving-map display selectable to underlay the FPLN page on the MFD (DMAP item on the MFD menu). The system can receive two DMAP video sources, DMAP1 and DMAP2, either selectable from the DMAP menu. Like the weather radar and HTAWS, it must not be used for navigation — it is an awareness tool, and the display/database may not have the accuracy to base routine navigation decisions or route planning on.
Failure and mismatch messages
| Message | Trigger |
|---|---|
| DMAP FAIL | Digital map database failure — map data removed |
| DMAP1(2) RNG MSCP | Range scale requested on one display doesn't match the other, while the same DMAP source is overlaid on both MFD and copilot PFD |
| DMAP1(2) POS MSCP | ARC/ROSE format selected on one display while the opposite (ROSE/ARC) is already showing on the other, same dual-overlay condition |
| DMAP1(2) HDG MSCP | PLAN format selected on one display while ARC or ROSE is already showing on the other, same dual-overlay condition |
| DMAP HDG FAIL | Heading data for the map lost |
| DMAP POS FAIL | Helicopter's current position missing |
| NO MAP AVAIL | Operating outside the digital map database's coverage area |
| MISSION FAIL | Mission data becomes invalid while on the DMAP presentation |
The three MSCP (miscompare) messages only apply when the same DMAP source is overlaid on both the MFD and the copilot's PFD at once — the system is checking that both displays agree on range, position format, and heading format, and clears the data from one side if they stop matching.
